Practical WooWoo™ is changing.......

Practical WooWoo™ is changing and embracing its own growth and development. For years now I have wrestled with how I communicate what it is that my company does. Believe it or not, I even seriously considered changing the company’s name last year! But the truth is, I love the name and it ALWAYS gets a reaction - sometimes a laugh, sometimes a frown, sometimes a confused look and yes, sometimes even a knowing nod. For those of you who may not be familiar, the term “woowoo” in the healing world is sometimes used to describe something that is “out there” or not “common practice” by western health approaches (i.e. yoga, meditation, guided visualizations, hands-on-healings, healing remotely, reiki, chiropractic, regression therapies, spiritual/intuitive readings, etc.)

When you do a Google search, Double Tongued Dictionary
defines it as
“woo-woo
adj. concerned with emotions, mysticism, or spiritualism; other than rational or scientific; mysterious; new agey. Also n., a person who has mystical or new age beliefs. Subjects: English”

I chose my company’s name to blatantly affirm that there are indeed some concepts, ideas, tools and techniques, that although may not follow the rigorous scientific method as we understand it now, support and help us create health and wellness within ourselves. And, yes I have success with the techniques I use, but exactly how they work often time remains somewhat of a mystery.

What I do like about some seemingly “woowoo” ideas - in particular what has become known as “energy healing” or “energy medicine” is that they embrace tools and techniques that support the Body-Mind-Spirit Connection. The approach is holistic in nature and works to heal the layers of human consciousness not just the symptoms presenting in the body.

We often see and talk to the Mind-Body Connection - but what happens when something happens that cannot be explained by the rational mind? How do we deal with that? How do we begin to deal with the unreasonable and irrational things that happen? Do we throw up our hands? Fall into the abyss? Medicate? Get sick? Eat excessively? Become a recluse? There is not a pill or a check-list to solve this.

Here is where I believe some “woowoo” techniques help. It is in these techniques that we begin to address the underlying causes of the DIS-ease in the body and discover what it truly is that the person is trying to heal. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a strong advocate for people getting treated by the physician! What I am saying that the healing that we are talking about here goes beyond the 15-20 minutes that doctors are allowed to spend with you. The healing here is one of connecting with your life - the one you you thought was not possible.

How has Practical WooWoo™ changed? When I started over 5 years ago - I was looking to have Practical WooWoo™ teach people to “embrace balance”. Now, through the many clients I have served through one-to-one sessions, teaching energy classes, conducting workshops or speaking with groups, I realize that Practical WooWoo™ truly facilitates people in developing that inner strength - whether to deal with an unreasonable illness, an irrational board of directors, the routine of daily living or pleasures of the adventuresome mystical journey.

Do I want to change my company’s name? Heck no - I believe “practical woowoo” is here to stay and I thank my rational and “woowoo” self that it is.
